How it works
- Tell us what you need. Fill out the short form below (it takes about a minute).
- We pass it to a local pro. We share your request with an independent chimney professional who serves your area.
- They reach out to you. You talk with them directly, get their price, and decide whether to hire them. There's no obligation.
We're a referral website, not a chimney company. We don't do the work, set prices, or guarantee anyone's work, so ask any pro about licensing, insurance and certifications before you hire. More about how this site works.
Fireplaces in Tega Cay homes
Tega Cay is a lakeside city on Lake Wylie in York County. Many homes here have gas fireplaces or factory-built wood-burning units rather than old solid-brick chimneys, though you'll find every type. Here's what each typically needs:
- Gas fireplaces and gas logs: an annual check of the burner, pilot or ignition, venting, gaskets and glass. A gas fireplace that's hard to light, has lazy yellow flames or leaves soot on the glass should be looked at. See gas fireplace service.
- Factory-built wood fireplaces: sweeping when buildup appears, plus checks of the metal flue sections, chase cover and cap. See chimney sweeping.
- Chase covers and caps: the metal top on a framed (siding-covered) chimney can rust or collect water over time, which can lead to leaks. See chimney repair.
Smell, leaks or animals?
Common reasons people call in summer and fall:
- A musty or smoky smell that's worse on humid days. Creosote smells are often stronger on humid days, or when the air conditioning pulls air down the chimney.
- Water stains on the ceiling or wall beside the chimney.
- Scratching or chirping in the flue. It could be birds or animals; see the note on chimney swifts below.
A note about chimney swifts
Chimney swifts are small migratory birds that nest inside masonry chimneys during the warm months. They're protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, so an active nest (with eggs or young) can't legally be removed without a federal permit. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service recommends having chimneys cleaned outside swift season, which for most of the country is roughly September/October through March/April. If you hear chattering in your chimney in summer, a pro can advise you on timing.
